Pierangela Samarati (University of Milano)

Samarati is associate professor at the Department of Computer Science of the University of Milano, Italy. Since 1993 she has been serving as the Italian representative in the IFIP TC-11 on ``EDP Security''. Since 1998 she has been the Vice-Chair of the IFIP WG 11.3 on Database and Applications Security, and a member of the Steering Committee of the European Symposium on Research in Computer Security (ESORICS).

Access Control: Policies, Models, Architectures and Mechanisms (AC): 6 hours.

This series of lectures will present a comprehensive approach to access control in cyberspace based on an integrated treatment of policies, models, architectures and mechanisms. Classical approaches of MAC (mandatory access control) and DAC (discretionary access control), and the modern RBAC (role-based access control) approaches will be discussed. Emerging access control applications in support of secure electronic commerce will be discussed.
